About

Jessica Misener

Hi there. I'm a seasoned writer and content editor available for freelance work in any genre of writing and editing, branding and copywriting, speechwriting and ghostwriting, and anything else involving words!

I have more than 10 years experience in media, journalism, AI-generated content and branded content. I’m also the author of Things To Do Before You're 30 (April 2018, Adams Media/Simon & Schuster) and Joy of Missing Out (November 2019, same imprint).

I’m currently a Content Editor and Prompt Engineer at LinkedIn, working with generative AI content — a fascinating and cutting-edge field. Before that, I spent several years in branded content as Senior Creative Lead at the Washington Post Creative Group, the custom content agency within the Post, as well as writing branded features for the New York Times’ T Brand Studio. I cut my list- and quiz-writing teeth on five years at BuzzFeed, where I served as a senior editor in both New York and San Francisco and wrote some of the most viral internet posts of all time. I also lived the SF start-up life as Managing Editor of TuneIn, a sports, music, podcast and audio app, and before any of this, oversaw all things red carpets and runways as senior editor of the Huffington Post's Style vertical.

In addition, I've written for Medium, Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Cosmopolitan, The Awl (RIP) and more, and interviewed celebrities ranging from Jack White to Mindy Kaling. I’m a recovering academic (and love talking to others of the sort!); I have a master's degree in religion and classics from Yale Divinity School, and I love golden retrievers, ancient Greek, and the Trader Joe's "New Products" section. PS: Ask me about the time I went on the Today Show dressed as an SNL character.

I currently live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, about 30 minutes from Detroit.
